

Orly Avitzur, MD, MBA, FAAN is a practicing neurologist in
Tarrytown, NY and the first Editor-in-Chief of the American
Academy of Neurology Website. She is Medical Adviser at
Consumers Union and Associate Medical Editor at Consumer
Reports. She received her undergraduate degree from Johns
Hopkins University and her medical degree from The
Pennsylvania State University School of Medicine where was
the recipient of the Merck Award for Academic Excellence
upon graduation. She completed her neurology residency at
Yale-New Haven Hospital. She is certified in Neurology by the
American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and is a Fellow
of the American Academy of Neurology.
Her specialty interests include headaches, back and neck
pain, carpal tunnel syndrome and women’s health. She serves
as a medical consultant for the New York Rangers. She holds
academic appointments at Yale University School of Medicine
and New York Medical College.
Dr. Avitzur writes the In Practice column for Neurology Today,
a Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins publication in which she
discusses a variety of medical practice issues. She is a
freelance medical writer and has been a frequent contributer
to Neurology Now. She writes and speaks frequently on the
subjects of physician office technologies, electronic medical
records/computerized patient records, and medical practice
management. She is the chair of the American Academy of
Neurology Practice Management and Technology
Subcommittee and chair of the American Academy of
Neurology Audit Committee.
