Orly Avitzur, MD, MBA, FAAN, the 37th President of the American Academy of Neurology, is a practicing neurologist with offices in Tarrytown and Carmel, New York. She is the immediate past Editor-in-Chief of Brain & Life Magazine, and the former Medical Director at Consumer Reports where she created and wrote the Proactive Patient column.

Her specialty interests focus on brain health and wellness. She holds academic appointments at Yale University School of Medicine and New York Medical College. 

Dr. Avitzur is the recipient of an American Academy of Neurology Journalism Fellowship Award, and several APEX Awards for writing.  She also writes and speaks frequently about brain health, preventive neurology, navigating the current healthcare system, and consumer health advocacy. She is currently writing a medical memoir entitled A Very Good Brain.
